about brighton neurodivergent community

Hi, we’re Brighton Neurodivergent Community.

Specifically, writing this, is Leigh and Bill, the co-founders.

We started Brighton Neurodivergent Community at the end of 2022, when Bill’s mum, Sam, approached us to celebrate our bizarre and wonderful group of neurodivergent friends. She had been running mASCot for years, and had noticed that the older “kids” in the group were finding that they had nowhere to go when they aged out of mASCot, and that some of them were finding it hard to find friends.

Leigh had moved to Brighton in 2018, long before any kind of autism diagnosis, but knew what it was like to live in a big city and not know where to start meeting your people.

So the idea for Brighton Neurodivergent Community was born.

To start with, we worked with mASCot and created a Facebook page, Instagram and Discord. We hosted our first event in December 2022. There were 5 of us.

Over the next few years, we kept putting as much time and effort we could into Brighton Neurodivergent Community. We spent hours planning events, contacting local businesses, moderating a Discord server, and hosting events (even when nobody came).

By the end of 2025, we had over 500 members on Discord, over 1,000 followers on Instagram and 500 members on Facebook.

In 2026, we were a Brighton Girl Award runner up for Best Community.

And we’re just getting started.

Now, we’re helped by a team of incredible volunteers. There are six of them working with us behind the scenes to bring the best events and opportunities to Brighton & Hove’s neurodivergent community as possible.
